We built the functionality that monitors and aggregates energy consumption from every device, room and house on ESP RainMaker.
IoT · Smart homeThe goal was to develop a cloud-based IoT system for smart home devices.
The main functionality of part of the app must monitor the consumption from all devices for every user and aggregate the consumption data according to set criteria for a period of time.
With messages from the events generated in RainMaker, which are the result of user actions, the app must provide information for the current consumption of every node, room, and house, grouped by consumer type. The application also has to provide information about the time node it is turned off/on, the current consumption, the average consumption, and the average daily usage. The data must be displayed for different periods of time, depending on the user's needs (day, week, three months, year, etc.)
Whole house · now 2.84 kW Day Week 3M Year Kitchen 1.12 kW Living room 0.86 kW Bedroom 0.48 kW Bathroom 0.38 kW Average 0.71 kW Daily use 312 min Nodes on 9 / 14 Illustrative dashboardThe challenge was manipulating the TimeStream data provided by Amazon Web Services, which stores the consumption data for the user nodes, considering great performance and optimized cloud usage simultaneously.

The client assigned Generic Soft with the part of the app's functionality that monitors and aggregates the consumption data from all devices. The app uses events generated in RainMaker, which result from user actions and messages transferred between the nodes and RainMaker. Based on the events’ information, our team developed functionality:
The current consumption in the whole house, grouped by room and consumer types, and the total consumption at the moment.
The average consumption of nodes.
The average daily consumption of nodes in minutes.
A feature that stores data when the device is turned on/off and displays the historical data for the day (with the option: select day).
Based on criteria (House/Node/Room), the app can calculate the total consumption for a certain time:
Day Represented in the last 24 hours Week Represented in the last seven days 3 months Represented in 12 weeks Year Represented in 12 months House CriteriaTotal consumption across the whole house.
Room CriteriaConsumption grouped by room.
Node CriteriaConsumption of each individual device.
